Keep it for myself or grind off handle and start over? This is the first time I have a gap this big, I was in shock when I noticed and almost threw it across the room. I was finally catching up on orders and now this happens. Should I even finish the handle or just start over..:(

How deep does it go ?? Can you just grind it down ?? Any way , just drill out your pins , heat the handle up and knock it off . Good lord , don't grind the whole handle off .

There's no telling how deep that gap runs. Grind off the scales and do it again. :grumpy:

I would pop the scales and do a do-over if it is for a customer. A few possible fixes come to mind (I am a woodworker by trade) but none that I would advocate for use on a custom-level knife.
Oneill is right, there is probably no need to grind the scales down, just drill the pins and heat it up, they should come off well before you get into the tempering range.

Its unanimous then, they got to come off. Thanks guys. I figured I would have to do that. I guess I was hoping for someone to say leave it and it will become more valuable.:D;) Hehehe...

Shame, nice piece of Cocobolo there. You could use a liner material. I do and it not only brings a nice look to the handle, it is a little bit pliable so it can fill small gaps.

Yeah, you can try to pop off the scales and reuse them, if you use crap epoxy. :)

Why not mix some Cocobolo dust into clear epoxy and let it seap into the crack, then sand it smooth.
If it's the knife in your avatar, and you still can't stand the thought of making such a horrific bobo, send it off to me.
