What Do You Travel With?

OK, I love to travel. Usually spend a fair amount of time each year in some "interesting" places. Invariably I end up buying stuff for each trip - and leaving much of it along the way.

Today I got to thinking of just what I absolutely want to have with me when I am on the road. Discounting the usual list of things like comfortable shoes, suplex clothing, favorite pack, SAK, first aid kit, et al, I came up with a short list of stuff that I have come to know makes any travel easier (for me, anyway).

So, here is what I have taken on just about every trip for the last dozen or so years:

A One Cup Electric Heater (wwith appropriate plug adapter)
Duct Tape - Flat roll for easier packing
Shorewave Radio - small Grundig is current favorite
550 Para-cord - 50' or so
GI Can Opener
Large Sewing Needles - a few, differant sizes, but all big

So, let me ask fellow forumites: What do you tak along?

Victorinox Compact SAK
20' 550 cord
Zeiss Mini Quick
Fire Steel
Fox 40 whistle
Inova X5T
small first aid kit

I'm also looking at small AM/FM radios.

Bring along a small water purifier that you can attach to faucet heads.

I have the Katadyn PUR 2-stage filter. Travels well for hotel vacations.

Currently, the only indispensible items have been sunglasses, nail clipper, swiss army knife, lighter and small flashlight.

The best piece of gear - Duty Free Booze!

Jeez. I always travel to pretty darned civilized places, so for me it's my Timbuk 2 PeeWee messenger bag, cameras, $$$ and something to wear. I prefer to drink whatever the locals are having! ;)

I also travel a fair bit. I always bring (and end up using frequently)

1. Two LED flashlights, keychain and a 1w luxeon (or equivalent).
2. 30 ft. of cord. Used as a clothesline mostly
3. Multi-tool
4. Straps
5. Couple extra stuff-sacks
6. Pen or pencil and paper
7. Tevas or other sandles
8. Sarong
9. Travel alarm clock

I have a Kelty day pack w/ hydration that I carry on.

It's got:
water proof light weight coat
commercial hiking 1st aid kit that I've added stuff to
multi led flashlight w/ extra batteries
mini-minimag lite w/ extra bulb & batts
50' cord
bandana
hotel provided sewing kit / eye shades and ear plugs
multi function solar/atomic watch (g-shock)
munchies / gum
noise cancelling head phones
At least that's what I can remember off the top of my head.

As soon as I get my checked bags, at least one of my EDC's gets put where it belongs.

I used to do a lot of traveling and one thing that I found very useful was a inflatable neck pillow. Great for sleeping on planes or in the car.

For me no trip would be complete without:

Shades
Inova X5
SOG multi-tool
Craftsman Super knife w/ extra blades
1 freezer bag (I don't like to used change on trips, so I end up with a huge pile of coins going home)
med size gym bag ( we always end up going home with more than we went with)
My pillow( I hate flat hotel pillows)
a pair of flip-flops( You never know how well the bathroom was cleaned before you got there, so I don't go in to the bathroom bare footed  )

Got one 2 years ago for a long trip. Great piece of gear.

good to know that someone actually brings sarongs with them. Well i wear them a lot at home anyway so i actually bring a few everytime i travel.

What i can't go without is my multi-tool and i always carry some cord. Not that long. If i'm travelling by car a lot of stuff gets stored but if i'm flying i don't really carry much more other than extra pairs of undies. Oh and some travel wash detergent. Most of my clothes dry in a couple of hours so i don't need to travel with much.

Oh and i carry lots of plain white t-shirts

I'm thinking of carrying an extra pillow case next time. Sometimes bed and breakfasts are stingy with their pillows so maybe i could stuff some t-shirts in.

For me...

A couple changes of clothes... some tooth paste, tooth brush... and a razor.

When I'm driving, the pocket tools/sak go with me... when I'm flying... I may or may not pack them. Depends on the length of time and the potential hassle!
