What do you use to round your edges?

I'm making mostly 9"-12" bowie sheaths in 10-14 oz leather.Right now I use a dremel with sanding drum to round my edges after I straighten them up on a large drum sander. The dremel is messy and takes a while.I then use a sanding block by hand.

I'm guessing I need a round edge edger for the initial work before using a sanding block. What size do I need for 10-14 oz leather? In the catalog I'm looking at, they range from 1/32"-3/8".

Any input or different suggestions is appreciated.

What catalogue are you looking at? Maybe I misunderstand what you're asking.

This is what I use. It's an edge beveler from Tandy, Size 2. I like the edge rounded but still crisp.

Is this what you mean?

This is a catalog I ordered from McMillen Tools.Chuck Burrows suggested this company as a tool source. As far as I know they don't have a web site. They offer a common edger,a round edge edger, and a french edger. The french edger seems to have a square notch but the round edge edger looks more like a V in the notch area.I can't tell much about the picture of the common edger but it seems to be more U shaped.

Yes, something such as the picture you posted is what I have in mind.I just want something to remove the bulk of the edge before I hand sand. Are the different sizes just personal prefrence as to how rounded you like to make your edges?

RH, get yourself a #2 Edger. (Similar to the picture) That will cover 99.9% of your needs. If you want a more round bevel then take a look at a Bissonette edger, but I only used that dude on saddle skirts and really heavy stuff. If you decide to buy a creaser then #5 is the number that handles 99.999789875% of what you will do. I have full sets of the edgers and the creasers (5 each) and those are the only two I use.
