What do you use to sharpen?

I have a 3 inch stone that came with a no-name 10$ "survival knife" I u se to reprofile.

I use butchers steels I jacked from my mom's set of Tupperware kitchen knives to keep the edge aligned and shaving sharp. My knives never touch a stone unless I'm reprofiling. I'd use them for chips too, but I haven't chipped a blade in about 15 years. I feel using a stone can make the edge vary more than I'd like once I've got a good edge on the knife and removes much more steel than I need to. I have knives that haven't been stone sharpened for about 3 years now that shave just fine, so I think I'm on to something.

The total cost of my sharpening equipment would be less than a Vic Classic. ;)

What can I say, I like to shapen.

Edge pro- pro model
Sharpmaker with additional extra fine stones
DMT xx coarse diamond
I forgot the brand Smooth steel that was recommended to me by cliff stamp
Strop loaded with boron carbide
Spyderco bench stones, set of 3

Double sided india oilstone, leather strop and fine polishing paste. Gets most knives shaving sharp (for me anyway)!!!

A coarse and then a fine Smith's Arkansas stone (under running tap-water) for really dull blades.

And a Spyderco Sharpmaker for blades that just need a touch-up.

From coarse to fine:
Norton 80 & 150 grit aluminium oxide sandpaper for rebeveling.
DMT coarse diamond
DMT fine diamond
Soft natural Arkansas stone
Hard natural Arkansas Stone
Old leather belt for stropping

For me:

Edge Pro Professional Kit #3
Lansky clamp sharpener
Spydeco Sharpmaker (on order)

Ever since I got my new Bud Nealy knife, I started to think about getting a good sharpener. I ended up with a great sharpener, the Edge Pro. I also heard so much about the Sharpmaker that I got one from eBay. Now I all my blades are sharp, sharp, SHARP.

I got some home made diamond hones for the Lansky that cut metal real fast.

Used them this week on the dullest knives I have ever seen.. They could of been butter knives. Took a while but I reprofiled them on the lansky and then used the sharpmaker for the final edge.
Good knife hunting
