What do you use to strip the coating off of your Beckers?

My BK9 is starting to wear a good bit and I plan to strip it and force a patina. What is the best stuff for stripping them?

Any paint stripper that you find at Lowe's/ Home Depot/ Walmart etc, that says ultra strength/ works in 15 minutes etc.

If you can, I like to keep the finish under the scales by taking the scales off, taping the area under the scales, putting the scales back on, trimming the tape around the scales, and then stripping.

If your 9 is laser etched and you'd like to keep the 'BK&T' and 'BK-9' markings, do some electro-etching before you strip it.

When I etched my knives I used PCB etchant from radio shack, take a Q-tip and brush it on over the logo, or you can use hot glue and make a well around where you want to etch and fill that with etchant. With either method you will want to leave it on for a few hours then wipe it off and add fresh etchant

For stripping the blade I use jasco's

Another vote for Citri-Strip. Far less nasty than other strippers - just as effective.

Has any one tried sing brake fluid? I've used it to remove other types of paint with great success.

I've had good luck with "citru-strip" in a spray can

^^this.

I got some PBC etchant and Citristrip. Thanks guys.

Smart man. Although the pcb etchant won't darken the etch, just make them a little deeper. I, too, did a couple threads with electrochemical etching:

I'll be putting a patina all over, so as long as the etch is there, it won't matter if it's dark.

I can see that the BK-9 etch is deeper but I can't tell on the BK&T etch because the lines are too darn small.

How long should the Citristrip stay on before I try to get the coating off? I tried 30 minutes but it hardly put a scratch on it.

Found some pics that may or may not help. @Noswad0208, I replied to your visitor message. Be aware that this method worked so good it melted the Rubbermaid can a little.....

Hi guys, Newbie question. I like the idea of stripping the BK2 but not a fan (Yet) of the patina look. Are there any options other than forcing a patina? Thanks.
