What do you use your BK10 for?

Need your help and advice

I feel a little foolish asking
What do you use your BK10 for?
I just got a BK10 but I do not know what to use it for

I have a 4, which is only marginally heavier (100 g) than the 10
It out chops the 10,
With the narrow neck is actually much easier to choke up and do fine work than the 10
As a defensive knife the 4 has the same modified clip point as the 10 for 'push cuts' and out reaches it and has a wicked chop/slash

I have the 16 which is an amazing lightweight hiking knife
With only the 16 and a folding saw I can do almost anything in the woods

Don't get me wrong, the full handle is an amazing hand-filling grip and the neutral balance make a heavy knife light in the hand

So please talk about how you use the 10

Thanks

I think the 10 is a one-knife compromise betwen your 4 and 16.
It's easier to carry than the 4, and has more beef than the 16.

16+saw or 16+4 is a fantastic combination. I'd take the 10 when I wanted to carry only one full-size tool.

^This.

Given, I don't own a 10, but I've been thinking of replacing my 2 with a 10 (found I don't think I need that extra blade thickness anymore, and might as well save weight). But this is exactly the argument for the "one" belt knife type blades that are out there. The ESEE 6 and BK12 are other great examples of the genre, where they for sure don't chop or baton as well as the larger knives, but are much more capable than the smaller ESEE 4/BK16 knives at the same tasks, at the sacrifice of some of the smaller dexterity of the smaller knives.

Also, I find things smaller than about 7in blades easier to carry on my belt.

But I carry a BK9 and a Mora, since those two (and a folding saw) cover all I need to do, so what do I know :p.

Yeah pretty much this.

When I got my BK9 I carried it all summer, and a good portion of fall, until it got time for heavy coat weather. Suddenly the BK9 was too big, so I got the BK17 to replace it. It was good, but not for every application. So when there was a corresponding price drop on a certain online outlet, I got the BK10 to swap out the BK17.

I carry my BK10 for size convenience, and when I might need to do some degree of chopping, but without the need to bring down a frickin' tree. It's also very handy for carrying any Leatherman of Rebar or smaller size.

The 10 was the first becker I ever bought, I now own 8 beckers including the 4 and 17 and the 10 is on my hip EVERY time I go into the woods(granted the 4 is always on my pack as well)

I've used mine for all kinds of stuff. Great sized blade and was my EDC for a while when I first got it.

Even used it on this:

I prefer the Drop Clip Mod and she looks like this now:

Thanks, this is all very useful feedback

So a daizee says the 10 as the one tool option
Is it good for chopping?
Who uses it for chopping?

no, it's not very good for free chopping. But you can baton it through a thick branch quite effectively.

For a do it all knife, I love my 9. If I needed a one knife option, that would be it. I feel that i can do both my finer work, as well as my heavier work with it. After lugging a 249 saw around, a ruck, and more retarded and pointless gear than anyone should ever have to carry, the size and weight of the 9 does not both me at all. Besides all that, I carry a govt 1911 and 2 extra mags every day anyways.

But for someone who's one knife option doesn't require chopping or the large tasks the 9 is capable of, the 10 is perfect in my eyes. Therefor that is the knife that i got my wife. She just doesn't know it yet. While I can do large chopping and batoning, she can prepare food, and baton my large stuff into kindling. The 10 is everything that i love about the 9, including the look, in a package that is more suited to refined work, while still being built like a tank. (The 10 would arguably or theoretically be tougher than the 9 since it has the same thickness and geometry with shorter length) I think that the 2 is too much knife for my wife anyways, and if my wife breaks her 10... well she wont be able to break her 10 LOL
