what do you use your Civilian for?

I've run across a NIB Civilian for a great price and I'm tempted to pick it up, if nothing else, just for the coolness factor.

But I need some legitimate reason to get this. For those of you who have one, what do you do with it?? Besides frightening people into peeing their pants.

I carry mine in my truck for cutting seatbelts, or anything else that needs cutting.... ;)

Well, my wife carries one in her pocketbook and thank God she hasn't had to use it.

The Civilian is for self defense use only....anything other than that purpose can void the warranty(i.e. damaging the fine tip, etc.).

The Civilian is for ripping the tendons, muscles, and blood vessels of an attacker, so it is for defensive use. It is not good for stabbing and thrusting, so it is not suited for killing someone if that is your intent, or even for general "knife fighting," if there is such a thing. If a knife must have a daily use to justify its existence, then the Civilian is not for you. There is a fire extinguisher a few feet away from me as I type this. It is for emergency use only, and I do not use it daily for any task. I carry one or two Civilians tucked away while working police patrol. I hope never to have to use them, but they are there if needed. I also carry sturdier, more conventional blades for daily tasks.

That is what I was saying and it should not be used for anything else that might dull the blade.

Billman - My understanding is that this knife was designed for undercover police officers caught in a desperate situation and in need of saving their own lives with a knife that they were not trained to use. If you don't fit this category, maybe this knife isn't for you. Spyderco has many other knives that have an equal "coolness factor" but many more uses.

Rex G - Your fire extinguisher comment was not only a very good analogy, but also hillarious.
