What do you use your EDC knife for?

I'm just curious what you find yourself using your EDC knife for most on a daily basis?

And also, if you do use it on tougher tasks, what tougher tasks are those? And how often?

Mostly cutting paper, cardboard, zip ties and plastic packaging with the occasional banding strap and stripping electrical cables.

Mostly just usual farm cutting tasks. Cutting rope, fishing line, feed bags, hay bundling twine, packaging, indoor tasks, etc.

I use my machete more than my pocket knife. Especially during the summer, so my machete is definitely a edc. In a long time battle with overgrowing blackberries, bamboo, and other vegetation. I got a great 3V slimline machete for that!

During the winter I will break up the frozen drinking water with my edc folder if I forget to bring a fixed blade out with me.

Asshole repellent.

In stark contrast to the previous post, I just used mine to remove a sliver after feeding the wood furnace. Nice rig you got there Charlie:thumbup:

^ You make a perfect fixed blade carry model, CM! You need to send these pictures to all of the manufacturer's listed here on BF's. :D

BTW- is that California carry legal?

Yes, extremely legal.

Whatever I need it for, even *gasp* prying!

But in all seriousness, I use my knife for whatever task may present itself requiring a knife. I am guilty of light prying and some light driving in/out of fasteners (use the spine, never the tip) but I also realize the limitations of a knife. Ain't gonna try to pry apart a wooden crate with a ZT 450, but I have used a ZT 550 to assist in prying up a manhole cover and stuff like that, all depends on the knife and it's dimensions.

I've broken quite a few knives as well so again, gotta realize limitations and not be upset when you break a blade trying to pry apart a car door. A knife is "meant" for cutting but it's usefulness extends beyond that.

At work I carry at least two knives. A folder and a fixed. Typically the fixed is used opening boxes in the warehouse while the folder for lunch ;) The fixed has a working edge. An errant staple will ruin a fine edge.

Like Metsfan stated, ya gotta know your limitations...or your knife`s limitations. Prying when there are no other options will happen but use something which will take it. Otherwise you'll regret it in a bad way.

Just got done trimming some new boot insoles for the perfect fit.
I don't remember ever seeing my Dad use scissors, ever. I tend to be the same way.

I use mine for opening mail, packages, snacks, cutting up fruit or meat for a meal, pretty much anything that requires cutting, I use my EDC.
Now about scissors, those are what my wife uses with her sewing. Can't convince her to use a knife.

Light cutting task.

I work in Public Works so rope, zip ties opening boxes, etc.

I never pry anything ever. And it's not a screwdriver either.

Some of my non-work knives I don't cut anything with usually.
