I'm super pumped for ViKtim 9! It feels like X-mas is just around the corner, but there's not exact date. I just drift off and day dream.... So I thought I'd share with you, some of the things I've been doing lately.
Feel free to share your experiences, I'd love to hear how you cope. Waiting for that sweet union of man and knife! haha
For the past couple of weeks I've been going to 2nd hand stores, looking for inexpensive gear to take on an over nighter with ViKtim 9. Things like backpacks, cook sets, etc... The Socialist Republic of California is pretty strict with camp fires in the wilderness. You need a permit and there's a bunch of rules. Of course a lot of people just do it anyways.
I thought the most prudent thing to do was to get an alcohol stove. I was going to buy a Trangia stove for $20, but then luckily I came across a page showing you how to make The Super Cat Alcohol Stove! It's easy to make and would only cost $3. -
So I went to the dollar store and bought two 3 oz cans for a dollar and went to STAPLES to buy their hole puncher for $2. I got lucky and it was on sale for only 50 cents!!!
Followed the super easy instructions...
And here it is complete!
Then I went to Walmart and bought 2 aluminum mugs, altogether cost me $5.
Take a look at what happened when I let the puppy up!
It was just a test run, didn't time it.
Here's my ~$8 cook set.
Next up will be a DIY wind guard.
