Hi Guys
I have been watching the threads regarding the excellent deals available in the US for the venerable 110. I just recieved a catalogue from a major retailer here in New Zealand, it has the 110 listed among both Buck and other well known brands. The price to me is $129.95NZ thats $89.27US!!!!!!!
guess they don't want to sell many eh????
What is the comparative cost in other parts of the world?????
Stunned and amazed:confused:

Given the prices we can all buy them off the net for, I really struggle to see how the local distributors and retailers justify their rediculous mark ups.

Long live the internet! (Unfortunately it just means I've spent more on knives than I shoudn't have!)

Hi Daniel
what have you been buying??? Was hoping to get opinion from other countries, not the other side of Auckland Harbour.

Sound about right for Wal-Mart - that where I got my 110 and 112. I got my 110/100th Anniversary at Canadian Tire for just a tad more, about $55 CDN. House of Knives, IIRC, had them at about $80 CDN, but they used to be around $90.

In the Czech Republic, well over $100 U.S. And - get this! - I recently spied a Buck 560 in a knife store in downtown Prague for around 3,900 Czech Crowns, which is just over $150! The only knives I'd EVER buy here are SAKs or Opinels.

Hmm
we are not so hard done by after all. It does seem foolish of the importers to hike the prices so much when cheaper items are only a mouse-click away.
Hahahaha, just saw a Spyderco Police listed for $239US, heck I didnt pay that much for a Ti version.

Same here. I've seen an ordinary Buck Strider 880T for around 420$, and don't get me started about the Sebenza for 1250 bucks....

Redguy, Do you think it's a matter of availability and additional cost because its an import or demand for Buck knives?

Mike,

Not really. Buck knives aren't more expensive here than any other famous American or Japanese brand. I love Buck knives, but that makes me an exception, not the rule. I think the most popular brands among Hungarian knifenuts are Benchmade, Fallkniven and Spyderco. The disgustingly high prices are caused by the outrageous profit margin of the main Hungarian dealer. :barf:

For example if a knife costs $100 in a decent US webshop, the handling, shipping, customs and taxes raises this price to $150. The fair price this way should be about 180 bucks in Hungarian money including a straight profit, but the dealers take advantage of the uneducated buyer, and they sell it for 3-400 bucks. I always wonder, how can they stay in business? I know several fellow knifelovers in Budapest, and every one of them are purchasing their knives online.

As much as I love the Buck 110 (my collection sits at 8 right now), I wouldn't pay that much for the standard version.

That said, prices are as high as people are willing to pay.

From the international Buck knife prices I'm seeing quoted here, I, for one, am glad to be an American, where we can purchase Bucks, nearly anywhere, and not have to trade-in one of our arms to pay for it!
