what does a man have to do to get a Spydie trade?

Well, I'm surprised. Either that, or just impatient so far. I've posted in the Trade forum (wink wink) offering either an ultra-rare BF Blue G-10 Native or a limited edition Native Black G-10 handle with blue shell inlay, complete with a Mike Sastre sheath, for a measly Temperance Jr. So far, nobody's interested.

I guess this knife is ultra-popular with collectors after all! Which is weird, since it's going to be mass-produced sonn anyway, unlike the two mentioned above which are limited-run one of a kind...

(get the picture?)

I guess I will have to continue to be patient...

*sigh* ;)

Flood,

It's probably because the knife isn't out there yet.
Give it some time to get into the hands of the traders.

Actually, they probably haven't gotten into the hands of the "I've gotta have it now but I'll get bored with it real quick-like" guys, of which I've occasionally been guilty of being.

I guess you guys are right...

Your comments certainly make sense. However, today I had the weirdest experience. Someone posted up Temperance #27 (and a cool number for me at that!), so I offered one of these two treasure-trove knives plus the Mike Sastre neck sheath, and was beaten by...(drum-roll please)...

A MASAAD AYOOB!!!

I mean, CMON! Not that that knife is bad, I bet it is a work of art and all, but a numbered edition Temperance for a mass produced unlimited production knife!?!?!

;)

I figured Recluse has or had these already anyway, and wasn't interested.

Still, it sure was painful to lose that trade. :(

Hi Flood-

I'll be glad to give you a little more insight into my motivations. It's true that those are two awesome Spydies that you offered, but I have found that Spyderco makes some of the best user knives EVER, which is why I buy them. Since I don't buy them to collect, as soon as I determine that a particular model isn't going to meet my needs, it is out the door, regardless of whether or not it's numbered, etc.

In this case, I feel the Ayoob will be perfect for my needs. It has the oft-mentioned surgically sharp VG-10 blade, it's lightweight, so it won't weigh down the dress pants I have to wear to work, and the blade-handle angle will prevent my budding carpal-tunnel syndrome from bothering me if I need to do any extended cutting.

Also, since the knives I do use tend to look.....well, used (check out the Police in my first Temperance thread and you will see what I mean), I just don't feel right giving the business to truly collectible knives, even if they would actually make excellent users. :)

I hope this helps........

Point well taken, Recluse. ;)

I really hope you enjoy your new Masaad Ayoob. I'm curious to handle one myself sometime. It sure looks like a great knife, and you can't go wrong with that VG-10 blade!

Rgds,
