What is the origin of this name? and what is this knife type supposed to do? is it the same as a tracker? What does a tracker knife do?

Boss, did you spell the correctly? Can't say I've ever heard of a "traier knife".
Of course that doesn't count for much, but Google could not find a reference to it either.

I realize it's about 5:30 AM UK time at the moment, but you know I can't quite follow that either, nor can Google. Or to put it in American slang, "Say Whaaaaat?"

Perhaps a cup of tea first? Or am I missing something?

There is a trailing point blade style that is a bit up-swepted. There's also the Trailmaker Bowie by Marbles. Trail Guide by Puma. Trail knife can mean anything from a mid-sized hunter to a machete or bolo.

Do you have an online reference(?), perhaps if we can read a passage and figure out the context we can help more.

trailer knife: a simple blade of north american origin, bought at an agricultural fair and used for chasing your wifes transvestite cousin/lover round the trailer park and onto the set of jerry springer.

There is also a lockback, beefed up Laguiole-style sold as a Trail Knife. Cutlery To go used to carry Spanish versions but I can't find any there now.
