Just seen one at Farm king tha other day. Looked at Cabela's and they have it in 154cn and S30V. The price on them seem a little high for that small of a knife, but sometimes looks can be deceiving. Anyone have any imput on these knives?

Hi K,

I like the 196. They are a sweet little knife; here are the few i have:

Hey John...
Those are too cool for school.
Interesting, to me, that the one does not have the grippies on the spine like the other two. I prefer having those for working.

Can you do me a favor and post a pic of one of those next to a 110 for scale?
Thanks!

Either one of you ever use one? They reason I ask is that about 1/3 of the knives I collect that I have no intentions of using end up being used just because they look like they need to be used. Starting to lean away from my Case pocket knife collection and start a Buck hunting knife collection.

I love mine also but the Cabelas one seems a little expensive IMHO.
Buy the 154CM from Buck :D

I tell you all the blade steels on this little one is confusing. Bass pro has it in Ats-34 and 154 cm. Cabelas has it in 154cpm? and s30v.

I like the variety!!!

ATS-34 (japanese) = (USA) 154CM

CPM154, I believe is a trade name? It is a tad better than 154CM.

CPM stands for Crucible particulate? particle?? Metallurgy or something like that :D
Google it :D

It is made by putting the powder under extreme heat and pressure, and it makes the grain in the metal more uniform, and better for edge retention, sharpenability. (I believe anyway off the top of my head without double checking) LOL

Here scroll down, all the info is there. I hope this helps! :)

You have answered the question that I havent been able to find the answer to. I couldn't find the answer of differance between 154cm and 154 cpm. A tad better, humm. How does the 154cpm compare to the s30v? Is the s30v worth $15 more? I have a 110 and vanguard in s30v and love them but never used anything in 154cm or 154cpm.

That is probably also personal preference :D
I edc 154CM. I have a pair of 110's with S30V though and love them!
Both are great steels IMHO. Buy one of each, again :D LOL
I love the 154CM also by the way :D
I dont use the CPM154... yet :D
