what does "CPM" stand for?

Crucible Particle Metallurgy, a process used by the Crucible Material Corporation and is trademarked by them. Others can explain it better than me but think of it as a powdered steel, very good, very tough. Takes and holds the best edge I have ever seen. My favorite in the series is CPM440V. They have a web site at www.crucible.com

Not sure if it is on the site mentioned by Chief, but I once read an article I found through a link at the Benchmade website that described in detail how they were able to achieve the high levels of carbon and the uniformity in the carbides. Very interesting and informative stuff. Stated that in certain ways, 440V is alot like Damascus in its' own right.
