What does everyone think the best knife is for hunting whitetail in MI?

You can’t go wrong with a Marbles knife from Gladstone, Michigan http://www.marblearms.com/marblearms.html . If you are hunting whitetail in MI I think you better check your tags, I think it’s state law that you have to process your deer with a Marbles knife (well….maybe not, but it should be

). Good luck.

Take care,

I don't know about you folks over in MI, but here in WI we hunt whitetails with guns, bows or the Chevy Impala.

Kirch, you stole my thunder! That was going to be my answer! Maybe it's easier to hunt deer with a knife if you're not constipated from all of this cheese. Hey, any other folks in Mazo into collecting? I'm trying to assemble a midwest club.--OKG

Killed my last one with a slingshot at 150 yards. It was a running shot so kinda tough.

For cleaning your deer, a Marbles Fieldcraft (it's obligatory if you live in Michigan). You won't nick the gut if you are careful. I cut the plevis with a Wyoming saw and cut around the rectum with a Lakota FinWing.

For years I've used a Schrade Bear Paw.Lately I'm using as many differant types of knives as I can.I've used saks,a 50/50 Delica,Case Trapper ect. This year I want to use a small fixed blade custom that I just picked up and the plain edged blade on my Gerber Multi-plier.Does not really take much to field dress a deer,I'd really like to try doing it with one of my broad heads (I use a fixed 2 blade head)maybe if a snap off the shaft about 3 inches below the head.

Our whitetails must be alot faster down here in the South. I can't seem to run fast enough to keep up with them, so I guess I'd have to use a throwing knife or ballistic knife to hunt them with

Since we are talking "how to do" here, if you haven't tried a "ZIP SAW" to cut thru the pelvic bone, you don't knnow what heaven is like. This diffcult chore is over in mere seconds with little effort and the cut is clean and the rectum is not cut. As far as i am concerned the ZIP SAW is a must have!

budrichard, what is a zip saw, why is it so great and where can I find a picture of one? Im always interested in new toys.

Hmmm. Looks suspiciously like a survival saw with a doodad attached at each end.

Are those zip saws very tough. I remember when I was a kid getting on of those 'Army Survival Knives' with the hollow handle. It came with a wimpy cable saw that broke after the second use. I havn't tried a cable saw since then.

The ZIP SAW is very tough. I have NEVER seen one broken. They are a must for big game including elk and moose although I have only used one on deer. It makes a difficult chore, easy and clean! Get one. By the way, the cutting cable part is replaceable!
