I see descriptions of knives that say the scales have been dyed and jigged. I think I got the died part down what do you mean jig?

There are many different styles/patterns of jigging too. Check knifehandles.com for examples under jigged bone. Its one of my favorite handle materials. Its very classic and traditional and I like its variety:

Must be popular with other folks too. I've sold 12 just like this one to the same guy, all in yellow jigged bone:

Those handles look great
I'm not usually a fan of bone but those are exquisitely done

There is also "picked bone" which was made before the advent of rotary tools.
Small pieces were"picked" out of the surface with sharp chisels.

Here's another style of dyed jigged bone, I really like using it.

Also, if anyone ever over stays their welcome in your shop! Just start grinding some bone and the stench will have them running for the door!

I prepared 14 sets of raw bone in a new friend's wood shop using his bandsaw, drum sander, and disc sander. He hasn't returned my calls the last 3 times.
