Hello everyone, this is my first time on any forum so bear with my ignorance untill I get the hang of it please. I just started collecting Schrade knives with great enthusiasim and found out shortly after that I didn't know alot about them. I have just been collecting ones that appeal to me personally without caring to much about collectors value. Right now I have my eye on a couple that appeal that have the KONKAV stamp on them. Can anybody give a little insight as to what that means? I have been reading alot throughout the forum and find that I can learn alot here. Thanks for the opprtunity!

Welcome! You picked a good place to start. :)

KON KAV was some slick marketing used to refer to the hollow grind (concave) on the master blade of a series of knives (3 patterns?). I'm sure a couple other folks will come along with an example or two, so as they say in horse racing...just sit chilly. :D

Thanks for the info El Lobo. Not sure if names are allowed but minre is Matthew. What you say makes perfect sense, now I know what they are talking about. Hope to talk again.

The 805, 863, and 880 Kon-Kav's last appear in the 1975 catalog, as the Old Timer and Uncle Henry series more and more displaced the open stock knives. The 863 balloon pattern (swell center) appeared through 1981, but is illustrated with a plain grind.

Here are a couple of views of one of the "KON-KAV" knives. Nice grinding job on production knife :)

Many thanks to Codger 64 and Waynorth as well as El Lobo for putting so much effort into educating me on this subject. I am in your debt. I doubt that I will ever be able to give advice to you on Schrade knives, but I may have a story or two to tell in a few years that will brighten your day. By the way,I latched onto a very nice Schrade 880 KON-KAV yesterday from non other than the son of the Vice President of Imperial Knife Co. (or so he claimed to be in an email.) Natoski was the family name and he is from RI. Do'nt know why he would fibb. I am HAPPY!!! Non the less. I'll be even happier when it gets here!

Post a picture when you get it, pwrstrk1! That's what keeps the ball rolling here!! Congrats on the new knife!!

Hello everyone. Sorry it took me so long to post this. I have been bussy. Here is a couple of pics of my 880 Kon-Kav. I have not seen that red dot in the shield before. Anybody know what the significance is of that?

Looks like a fish...:D

Seriously, it looks like a spot that the pin would go. Were they pinning the shields on or gluing them?

Nice piece, anyway.

Glenn

Thanks Glenn,it looks even better in person. I don't know if it is glued or pinned but that might explain the hole. Thanks for your input. Matthew
