what does oil the joints mean

you oil the pivot of a pocket knife so there is less friction, which means smoother action and longer lasting snap.

Among collectors, I believe it also brings to mind IXL of Sheffield. the phrase "oil the joints" was stamped on at least some of their blades.

Not being a collector, to me it means to oil the pivot pin. Not to mention a drop of whiskey for my own.

I am partial to Ballistol - and Jack Daniels is my speed lately. Tipped a shot into my beer last night, even.

I use Rem-Oil and Tullamore Dew. Both get the job done for loosening stiff joints.

Aye, 'tis mineral oyle and a bit of Laphoiag Cask Strength for this lad.

Now you're talkin', protourist (a bit o' the heather and sea salt), but mine is either Lagavulin or Caol Ila. Hard to beat an Islay for oilin' the joints!

Will silicon oil work? I have a couple cans from when I used to get airsoft guns.

Mineral oil will work although I use a bottle of Oster Premium Lubricating Oil (designed for hair clippers). Works well enough that I've never felt the need to look for an alternative.

I prefer these myself.

Im new to slip joints what does oil the joints mean and why? Thanks

It means that (if you do) Tony Bose won't wait for you in a dark alley when you least expect it, beat you up, give you a wedgie and take your lunch money!;):p

(Oh, and Rem-Oil, Tuf-Glide, Elijah Craig and Tullamore Dew work for me!!!)

I'm "Oiling the joints" with my favorite Mexican beer this evening, Negra Modelo. I gave up the brown liquor years ago. Thinking you're 10 feet tall and bulletproof is no way to go through life (after a certain age anyway :D)

Oh, and the knives get 3-in-1, Tuf-Glide, or mineral oil, then a good stropping.

tuff glide, benchmade blue oil, and club soda with a slice of lime. Jonnymac knows how I like 'em. You gotta bruise the rind.:D

A drop of Break Free and (lately) a few drops of Bookers works for me.

damn you people and your drinking and oiling. Oh how I used to love my bourbon and oil (for better or worse, now it's just the oil....although I'm pretty sure it's for the better)

What these guys aren't telling you is that it is a euphemism for "rubbing one out"....they are all perverts around here, but on the downlow.:D

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
