What does the Letter Prefix mean

I have a large, regular Sebenza which is marked "A 03" on the inside of both handle scales. I know that 03 is the year, but I have heard various explanations about the letter. Can anyone tell me, with some certainty, what the letters mean?
Thanks

CRK marks their scales " A, B, C ". They mark them in 4 month intervals. "A" means the scales were made from January-April; "B" means the scales were made from May-August; "C" means the scales were made from September-December.

These mean when the scales were made, not necessarly when the knives were made, this would explain the BD cards being different. The ones with an "A" on one side and a "B" on the other, they had One left of the "A". then went to the "B" scales, etc. I am sure some of them came from people in the secondhand market swapping things around. Though I am sure it would be tough because CRK has a nack for matching scales and I have rarely seen ones that look similar.

Its funny, I am editing to answer the other questions. I had all this typed in and I felt I was drifting away from the original question, so I deleted most of it....:)

I had heard that before. Then, someone who had a June birth certificate with their knife said that theirs was marked "A". There were also folks who said one side of the knife said "A", the other said "B". That's how I got confused and why I asked the question here. From the exactness of your answer, I'm going to go with your explanation.

I believe the numbers on the scales denote when the scales were made. That date doesn't necessarily mean that the knife was made at that time though. It could have been assembled months later.

I edited to add the additional info. I had it all typed in earlier, but felt I over answered the question, so I deleted most of it. Now I put it back !!! :)

Good grief, I have fallen in with some very conscientious folks. I appreciate the effort that you all have made to help me.

A B C is just the lot number of the scales
So a slow year could be all " A " .

I got this answer from CRK today.

The marks on the inside of your knife are machining marks. The 03 does correspond to the year the handle was machined and the letter refers to when in the year it was made. “A” being the first batch, “B” the second, etc. Your handle was machined in the first batch of 2003.
