For some reason every time you loan a knife it either comes back looking like crap, or not at all. I prefer something small so I cant even tell its there.
So, lets see those loaners.

Here are my piece of crap loaners!

I will get a picture of mine, It's a POS CRKT M16-13M that I found and disabled the Lawks System so most people can close It..... most people....

That, or I hand them my ZT-300, If they manage to mess that up they must be doing something REALLY stupid.:D

The only blades I will loan anymore are the Homme Depot Folding utility knife. No one can be trusted with anything more valuable.

This POS knockoff is my loaner. I can get the mystery steel hair whittling but it doesn't hold it well at all.

oops! fixed that.

I don't loan knives anymore. I'll cut stuff for people, but they're not getting THEIR hands on MY knives. Obviously, they don't have enough sense to carry one and be prepared.

I take that back... I do let people borrow my butter knives for their toast when they're at my house.:)

I have friends who understand tools to whom I will loan a knife.

I have other friends who do not understand tools for whom I will cut that which needs cutting.

I have no "loaner" knife.

.

The only loaner knives I know of belong to other people, the pictures of which are exhibited above.

Below is a picture of my loaner,

Nice isn't it? I've learned not to loan out knives, cept to a select few (2), in which case they have a knife collection as well and just wish to see one of mine that they don't have of there own...

I don't understand the question. Are you talking about when a person is standing nearby and ask's to borrow your knife for something they are doing right then and there or are we talking long term, like a few days or more?

I've had people ask to borrow my knife for something immediate many times; but I don't think I've ever had anyone ask me to "loan" them a knife for an extended period of time.

I've never heard of anyone keeping a knife specifically for that purpose. It just seems like an odd question to me because it doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would come up that often. But then again that's just me.

I do have some cheap Byrd knives that I would probably give them if they asked though. . .

Haven't loaned a knife out (for a long period) for quite a while now. Last time I did it was my Kershaw Cyclone, which I lent to my dad (who took great care of it).

Since I have brought a few people into the knife world, and I sharpen the knives they own, I won't hesitate to pull the knife I'm carrying and swap with a friend's that needs a touch up. I have loaned out my Sebenza, AG Russell Acies, Volt, MC Ti/ZDP, customs, Case CV, whatever I happen to have in my pocket. I've never had a problem doing this.

However, I won't do this for a non-knife lover.

I don't loan out knives since the time a friend at church asked to borrow my Sebenza for a few minutes. I asked him what he needed it for and he said he needed it to pry open a stuck door!
Needless to say, he didn't get to borrow the knife.

What I meant is, when a person asks you to use a knife, not necessarily keep all day or take them home for the weekend.
To me, the moment my knife exchanges hands, its been loaned out.
In my line of work I cant say NO to a customer and have the possibility of loosing them over a knife. Enter loaner/beater/etc.
I would hate for one of my customers to flick my knife open and have it fall tip first, easily avoiding the pain/fury by handing them a cheap knife.

I don't have loaner knives, but depending on what I have on me that day determines if I will let someone use it or not.

+1 :D

Good answer. I do the exact same thing. Once in a GREAT while, I'll let someone use my knife, but I always ask, "What for?" Usually I'll cut it for them, or they get to sit through a 20 second lecture of what happens to people who ding my blade.

I don't loan my knives. I either cut the stuff for them; or, if they're family or a good friend, I will just give them a knife.
