Just wondering when you guys mod your hawks what kind of edge do you put on? My Trail Hawk has basically a scandivex where I just rounded out the bevel that came from the factory. It chops awesome but I noticed it likes to wedge a bit and was wondering if I gave it more of a convex if it would perform better. Any thoughts or opinions?

I go the same as you... I think convex would perform better in hard woods.. but the scandivex style is easier for me to sharpen in the field.

a light convex on my hawks-as I hand sharpen with a lansky puck that's what comes out naturally. bites deep, strong edge, etc. The problem with thin, deep biting heads is that they are going to bind. It's just going to happen. There are a few splitting techniques like rolling the bit as you chop that really complete the split and prevent binding that might be looking into, I think Ray Mears has a tutorial on it.
