I have brought my selection down to 4 new emerson's I cannot choose which one though some thoughts please. I have narrowed it to the roadhouse, mini or full, patriot, cqc 8 full or mini, or the sheepdog.

I use the Horseman for EDC - small, elegant, yet effective for my work use - cardboards and rope cutting.
I managed to get a Patriot and Commander in my hands, but they are bulkier for me and they doesn't fit my hand - just too big for me. The CQC-10 I have fits my hands better, so I use it too.

My advice is very simple - try to hold each other of them and find out what's better for you, what feels better, what do you like. If the knife you want fits your hand perfectly - take it :)

This is a predicament I was in a few weeks ago when I had to choose my first Emerson. Without being able to handle them in person, I would recommend opening a new tab with a picture of each of your finalists, and go back and forth between them, imagining your intended use and which you think would fit you best. Blade shape, handle ergos, size, etc.

My first isn't on your list, I went with the Commander, but of your list, I'd narrow it down to either the Patriot, CQC-8, or Horseman, based on personal preference for blade shape and handle ergos. ;)

All of them! you can never have enough Emersons!

on a serious note, I would go with the CQC-8 out of the ones you are interested in, it has some of best ergos you can find on a folder.

If only used for EDC then a plain stonewashed blade would be best, but since you will be using it camping also, you might want to get it with a combo edge and a coated blade.

Good luck!

I do not know what other knives you will be having with you while camping for example a large fixed blade for wood processing, lopping, chopping, etc.

However, i am partial to the CQC-8s for general purposes uses. While they are every bit able to hold their own in a fight, they have a very useful blade shape. Whether you get the Super, the regular 8 or the Horseman depends on what size and weight you feel comfortable toting around, what type of pants you typically wear and the like. I have all three and while the horseman is the most comfortable EDC of the three, the regular CQC-8 is my favorite and most useful size for me. YMMV.

Happy hunting.

Ok so my next one next week well Friday will be the Horseman that seems to be a good

Your problem will end up being which one to get first out of the group. I chose the horseman. Then a roadhouse. Next is a commander.

I don't own any Emerson, but from a design standpoint I would go with the sheepdog, but if you want a classic emerson I would go with the commander.

Go with the 8. Classic design. Exceptional egos in forward and reverse. Easier to sharpen than the Roadhouse or the Patriot. The Sheepdog should be acquired after you have a few others as the flipper and bearings will spoil you. Only a handful of em have the action of the Sheepdog. Get the full size 8,it is as good now as it was 20 years ago and will introduce you to Emersons the right way
