I was curious as to what Micarta is? I know it's a material to make Knive Handle's with... but what kind of material?

From what I understand, it is a linen with some other materials compressed together

Since it is Christmas night and kinda slow I will give it a shot. I understand that it is a phenolic resin that is impregnated into either paper or cloth in order to create a rigid, durable material. There are many variations such a rag, linen, or paper depending on the substrate. Because of the nature of the resin it can also be done in a myriad of colors or colored layers.
Think of a computer circuit board! Basically the same principle.
As I understand it.

Great answer Jason! That is it exactly. Kind of like fiber glass, but based on paper or linen layers along with the resin. Originally micarta was developed for use as an electrical insulating material before it found other uses including knife scales. There was a lengthy thread about a year ago on the subject that might be worth searching for...
