And "walk and talk"? I'm sure there are other terms I will struggle with, but these two spring to mind. Is there a traditional glossary somewhere I can check out? Thanks for being gentle with me, I am somehwat new to traditionals, thanks.

Snap is that thing that my Bose Backpocket does when I open or close it and which scares be bejeezus out of me each time. Like porn, you'll know what it is when you see it.

I thought 'snap' was a cousin of 'crackle' and 'pop'. :D

Actually, it's the action of allowing the blade to violently slam closed. It usually causes the maker to cringe - right before he slaps you upside the head for abusing his knife!

I know a few that actually encourage it (whose knives you and I own in common) despite my normal reluctance to do so under ordinary circumstances.

You gotta have pretty strong fingers to KEEP these GECs of mine with half-stops from snapping.
Once I make sure the edge doesn't hit the backspring, I just let 'em go! Actually, with well oiled joints,
the "reverb" that you feel when it snicks home is one of the pleasures of a good slippy.

I have an old Ulster daddy barlow that actually has a magnetic echo... a warning for next time. :D
