I figured somebody here is bound to know the answer to this.

I was driving along today and saw a sign on the side of the road advertising a Halal Market.

What is a Halal Market?

(Yes, I realise it's some middle eastern thing and they're not selling halals! )

Halal is basically the Muslim word for Kosher. Meaning that it follows all the rules of Islam. It's not just food though, it applies to everything about their way of life.

There are two Chinese halal restaurants within four miles of where I live.

I am sure the White supremacist types would be too scared to go in. A Muslim restaurant, a Chinese Muslim restaurant, and holy smokes, they also employ Mexicans!!!!

I think that your getting a bad translation of Halal, we use that all the time
in the South,

Ha, y'al get me a beer. :D

And I guess you've never heard the southern translation of the term Islam.

"Hey bud, what are you cooking?"

"Ha y'al get me a beer"

"But what are you cooking it looks like beef"

"Don't worry about it's Is Lam"

"Huh"

"It's lamb" :D :D

I'm not weird. I'm alternatively intellectualised!

I wish you lot would be a little more careful with the PC stuff, you could adversely affect my emotional equilibrium!

You're Australian. That's weird in it's own right, mate. :D

Wow. Chinese halal restaurant. That is a rarity. No Char Siu Pork or Bak Kut Teh.

However, animals slaughtered by christians and jews are also halal. That's why i love my kosher hot dogs and salt beef.

If you go to San Gabriel, CA the Tung Lai Shun restaurant is really good. I eat there every month or thereabouts. Very good food, nice service. Their tou fu is great and their beef dishes superb. My late father in law came over from China once on a business trip, He had some associates with him, one was this big Uighur fellow who ate as much as five guys. The Uighur guy also was belting down one beer after another (this place serves beer, and many Chinese Muslims are not too strict). The Uighur guy was not in any way tipsy and was a jolly good fellow. It sure beat being outside in the heat that July.

Of course it bugs me that there are people who do not know the meaning of "halal." The reason is that all over the world people are getting dumbed down, though this process is more acute in the United States than say, Australia. But it is amazing how many people do not know even the name of towns close to where they live.
