What file / machete?

I might be wrong but I would say mill bastard

a mill bastard should do you fine.

i would suggest grabbing a couple- a large, course bastard to bring the bevels together (alot of machetes don't actually have edges when you get them), and a finer one to smooth out the scratches before going to a stone, or you can leave it at the fine file finish.

or you could get an harbor frieght 1x30 belt sander for the price of about 5 or 6 files...

Just get a good fine file and, if you want to go further, I personally use a fine DMT diafold to put the final edge on it.
