Such as hard chrome, nitride, parkerizing, rebar np3, or anything other than blueing or spray n bake finishes? I've been looking for info, but haven't found too much as of yet. With time, I'm sure I could find something tho. Anyone? Like I said, I'm interested in something other than blueing, or other "spray-n-bake" finishes like gunkote etc, because I've seen blues Busses, and any cg Busse is basically similar to other spray n bake finishes.

Satin should be just fine in Atlanta. I don't have any trouble with it in VA Beach. You don't need any coating on INFI.

Duracoat has been done a lot. I can't think of anything else that wouldn't be more expensive than satin.

Nobody hard chromes knives that I know of,Alot of muffler tips...chrome would make it Dull by adding metal to metal .Satin is best for finishes.just my opinion.

ve always wanted hard chrome finished Busses, just like the Emerson knives have, but I'm thinking that would require an LE finish first, as the hard chroming probably wouldn't cover all the infi dimples and imperfections. Or so I wouldn't think?

What exactly are you calling satin guys? Raw steel finish to a particular grit??? There are hard chromers out there that will hard chrome anything you send them.

It was called IonBond, and it looked VERY nice

To be more precise, the finish I had applied per a Buyer's request years back is an ADLC finish applied by the company, IonBond. The ADLC is named "Diamondblack" and was applied to a typical satin finished Busse FBM bowie proto and looked like this afterwards... Looked great to me upon close examination:

That Ion Bond gives an interesting look! I like it. :)

Any pictures of the IONBond finish after some use?

I'm curious as well, I want to remember that Buck has or had a few IonBond knives, bet there are some users there.

A member here with the screen name 308sniper was doing some handle/blade re-coats in special patterns
at one time under the name “Up-Armored”…

Have not seen anything from him in a couple of years. You might try running a search if interested.

I'm no expert on knife manufacturing, but I would say the answer to your second question is "yes" (Garth or Jerry could provide more details).

Even though it is not classified as a stainless steel, satin INFI is fairly rust resistant - with any reasonable care it generally will remain rust free. Living in southern Ohio we have humid summers, but I have not had any problems with uncoated and untreated INFI rusting (no oil or other rust preventative is used). I suspect that significant exposure to sweat or salt water would cause rust, but it would on many types of steel.

I have one INFI knife I use in the kitchen that I have abused by letting it lay in a wet sink for a day or two at a time, and I have only seen very minor rust on it (like where the handle meets the steel).

Nope.
I did ask the Buyer to post up some up after use, but never heard from or saw him around here again. It was only because I suspected as much before I sent it to him in Suriname via some Florida import/export company that I decided to shoot it at all before packing it up.

Electroless Nickel would be a better choice than Hard Chrome since it forms a molecular bond with the substrate (base metal) and is not micro-cracked like Chrome.
Most places do flash Chrome (for color) over Electroless Nickel now anyway.
