In light of our current economic times, what would be your knife to see you through all kinds of situations?

What knife works better to get a credit or another loan kindda situation ;) Is that how how survival is related to economic situation?

Any knife will do, as long as it is sharp and on your person during that situ. Everything else is just gravy......

If you're looking for an "only 1 tool" survival blade check out the new RC-5.

Mission MPK's or any Busse. With the Mission knives, rust will never be a problem.

At least two knives for me. Fällkniven F1 for main tasks and Fehrman EJ, my "Screw-you-all-you-bastards" knife.

To support me economically, I would like to have the whole inventory of Buster Warenski.

I gotta say... the Cold Steel Bushman at $20-$25 is very hard to beat. Lots of info on this knife around including Noss's destruction test just to show how much a $25 knife can take.

I'd say with the current econmy, a vintage Loveless would be good. Could survive for a couple years, or more, on the money you'd get selling it.

Busse, if you hang on to them long enough even the used ones will appreciate in value.

Busse? "In light of our current economic times"? To each his own I suppose.

OP, Take a look at the Becker Knife and Tool line. The BK2, or BK7 might fit your bill. Each under $70, and will last you a lifetime.

or if you can spend a little more, go with Rat Cutlery

p.s.- Both companies have sub forums here. go check them out for more info.

Based on my personal comparison test the best values are Ontario. My favorite is the SP 43 in 5160 designed by former Cold Steel guy for hunting/fighting. Great grip and guard. Gerber LMF made the cut for utility.

Cold Steel Recon Scout for general heavy duty. All of these are to your door for around $60 with sheath. Tried a Ranger RD6. Nice but heavy and the handle looked dangerous. Not long enough to hold critters off. Also I need a guard up front personally. These things are razor sharp and the first time onto the edge stabbing would be a disaster for life.

I shopped for Busse and can't see using them for the price but fun to collect and caress in the confines of your home.

I don't think dark economic times change the necessity for a knife. I carry a gun.

Actually whatever knife you happen to have on your person when a survival situation occurs. A decent blade in your pocket is better than the 'perfect knife for survival' in your BOB at a time you cannot get to it.

my custom, id trust it over any other knife in existence, ...except maybe a busse, but thats not fair

I'm a fan of TOPS knives as well as RAT. I carry either a TOPS Pasayten or Mohawk hunter every time I'm in the woods along with a SAK or multi-tool...and of course my dog

If we did a research study, I wonder how many times this question has been asked? I'd guess thousands. And, I bet they could all be answered by the person asking the question too.

Here's a start:
What is your budget?
What do you like that fits that budget?
Does the one that you like fit your requirements for durability, maintenance, usage?

If you have chosen a knife that you can answer affirmative to those last two questions, then there's your answer. Pretty simple. It's hard for anyone to tell another what knife is "best" because it may only be "best" for their requirements.
