what flower is this?

I wanted to help a friend ID this flower that she has a pic of. I know nothing about it. It *might* be a flower she took a pic of on one of her trips to Thailand for muay thai training, but I'm not sure. I figured maybe someone here has seen it before. I tried a google pic search (by dragging and dropping the image onto images.google.com) but found no relevant hits.

I guess it goes without saying that another mod can delete this if it's not relevant to the subforum.

Name another place she could have gotten it. I've searched every flower that grows on Thailand and can't find it. Is it living in the water ?

Waiting to get some answers from her. I'll post more info as I get it.

EDIT: For now though, she might have gotten it in California actually. She's often there for training as well.

The common name for this type of flower is Protea. Many flower shops sell these as a cut flower.
