Hey, could someone please help me? I want to buy a folder for every-day carry. No more than $200.

These are my options.

emerson mini commander
masters of defense trident
benchmade mel pardue

I mand something that will last a lons time and for hard use.

please help me.

Welcome to the forums!

I AM a bit biased, but I would recommend an Emerson Mini Commander. I actually am expecting another one to be delivered today. :) The "Mini" part of the model name is a misnomer, as it is actually a fairly good-sized folder. (You should see the Super Commander!)

Emersons are marketed as "The #1 hard-use knives in the world", and I, for one, would be hard-pressed to argue the point.

The Emerson Blackbird model is also a fine choice.....

I'm partial to the mini-commander myself. Always loved my BM AFCK and thought it had great handle and blade ergonomics and it still does but my commander just leaves it in the dust in that category.

The 'wave' feature is very nice too. It's fun but it also ruins your pants.

BTW which pardue are you referring to?

Of the 3 on your list, I'd choose the Emerson Mini Commander. Other than your list, it would be a Spyderco Chinook...A VERY stout folder.

If you are referring to the Pardue 720/721, my preference would be in that direction--great overall-use knives.

I had the BM 350 Mel Pardue, If that is which one you are refering to I would have to say go with the Emerson. The 350 was to small for my liking as an EDC and I hear allot of great things about the Emerson and hope to pick up the Full size for myself. Thats just my .02 :)

Buy a CRK Sebenza. :D

Sorry guys. . .I just couldn't resist ! :p

Actually, roblanco87, it looks as if you've done some homework. . .considering your expenditure range and the 3 knives that you've got it narrowed down to.

Personally. . .I'd go with the Emerson ! :D

Unlike the others I won't offer an opinion of what to buy.
I will ,however, wonder , since this is your first post how much
real homework you've done to define exactly what constitutes
a "good" (versitile) everyday carry most of which can be had
for way, way less that $200. A very good everyday knife that
is tough as nails can be had from many vendors for less than
$75 and still buy excellent quality.

There is one truth in knives that seldom gets mentioned......
A lot of money doesn't always buy the best knife nor the
best knife for the job. That takes experiance and attention
to the tasks at hand.

Looks like he's done his homework to me too. I know you meant no harm, but I wouldn't judge a fellow forumite's awareness of the necessity to research by the amount of his posts. He has 2 bills he can spend. Why not get the best he is aware of, or is made aware of? That said, roblanco87.....Snag yourself a Mini Commander! You won't regret it. ;)

We "The elite of knifedom" all to often forget the novice.

I remember when I started here I thought that unless the knife
cost a pile of money it wasn't worth mentioning. So I paid
the price for knives I now know cost to much for to little.
I'd guess that's the cost of an education no matter where you
go or what your interests are. A $200 everyday carry is serious
overkill to me. If anyone else wants it .....great.

After while you figure out that you could have done better for
less money and still had all the fun. Designer clothes or
designer knives are all the same to me. I'm not willing to
pay for someone else's name without perfomance to match.
Once a cut is made it doesn't matter $200 or $20 it's still cut.

Not sharing a bit of hard won and costly experiance with a
others (novice?) is just plain unfreindly. In time they will make
up their own mind sometimes using what they read here. :D

I've had Emersons (just about everything but the Commander) which I've either traded off or sold, just about the full range of BM's of which the only one I've kept is the 942 and just one MOD, a Tempest that I've worn everyday to work since I've had it and would really have to be desperate to get rid of. This is just a statement of fact as to my choices and is not a recommendation...well yeah it is...

Tightwad:

My experience is the other way around. I tend to do better with the philosophy of "Buy it once, buy it right".
Instead of collecting a handful (drawer full?) of $80 knives I rather spend a few hundred dollars on something that will last. Now granted, maybe your needs change or as you live with a certain knife for a while you may realize that you need a bigger, or smaller knife or a different blade shape. But if you were careful what you bought in the first place you should be able to get your money back out.
