I want to use food oils for my 1095 blades just in case i use them for cutting foods or wearing against the body. Are all food oils safe such as corn oil or do they have salts that might make the blades rust. I see some folks mention olive oil but i do not have any on hand at the moment.

food oils can go rancid.
OTOH, mineral oil (butcher block oil) is food safe, a decent protectant, and doesn't get gummy as it "dries".

On my knives I use on food I use either olive oil or mineral oil. You can find mineral oil cheap at any safeway or walgreens type store.

none.

I use the mineral oil that is sold as a laxative in the pharmacy. It is food safe, does not become scummy like the food oils do, and does a decent job of protecting the blade.

.

as others mentioned, mineral oil is probably the best knife lube if you will use the knife around food. Safe and cheap. It is made from petroleum.

fun fact: when ingested as a laxative, mineral oil will temporarily coat your intestines and prevent your body from absorbing fluids.
