Im new to this forum and I would like to know if theres any one else that feels the same way,I find that when Im super stressed out, the sharpening of my blade, the sound, the end result, relaxes me like nothing else does! Is it normal if you love knives or do I have issues?

it depends on who you talk to.

I don't think so, its like doing tai chi to the sounds of the ocean.
or not.

don't ask anyone not on this site though they might commit you.

welcome

Sharpening is therapy for me... second only to spending time with my dogs and a bit above #3, my guitars. I sharpen something at least a couple of times a week. Sometimes it's my EDC, sometimes it's one of the task-specific knives that don't see regular use or one of the "old" favorites from another time that I keep for sentimental value.

Well you've probably got issues but then that's why you're here. but seriously therapy comes in many forms and sharpening a knife is as good as any. Personally mine is fishing or wandering the woods in search of killer turkeys. if it works do it. ahgar

You have issues.

Now if you said the same stuff about stropping...I would say you are perfectly normal.

I sharpen knives just to relax a bit sometimes between that and whittling a piece of wood.

I like being able to do something well, and getting nice, sharp edges is one of the few things I can actually accomplish on a regular basis. I usually pop in an MST3K DVD, whip out the Lansky, and get to it.

It harkens back to the inner caveman in us all, lol, peace of mind is a well sharpened knife.

mans first tool and all that.
