What good (not black) 7" fixed blades are there?

Hi, I gathered some money from selling some stuff and want to get a nice all-round (camping/hiking) 7" fixed blade. Something with a normal satin finished blade (not black or serrrated) and green canvas micarta handles (or G-10) would be great.
I've looked at the CRK Green Beret, but that's a black blade with serrations, or a Fallkniven but that has 'plastic' handles.

So, what's out there?

Thanks,
Ted

Check out the new Busse Natural Outlaw. 7" blade, your choice of blade finish and micarta colors. bussecombat.com

Oooh, never saw those, but that sure looks nice. Only the price would come to $387 for a satin finished with green-linen (micarta?) handles. Will have to think about that...

It sounds like the Jones Brothers Survival knife might be exactly what you are looking for. Here's a link to their web page which has it listed. A little cheaper than a Busse, but I don't know much about their performance, never having handled either one. www.customknives.com/jonesbrothers/pg5.htm

Lagarto

Unfortunately there really isn't anything like that out there -
except the upcoming Becker Extreme.
Pricing should be around half the cost of the custom / semi custom
knives mentioned above.
However, availability still looks to be a ways off. :(

Check out the Ontario Rat 7 in D2 which is uncoated and costs less than $ 150

I second the RAT 7 as well.Black micarta slabs on a satin finished D2 blade. All for around $100!

Thanks so far - That RAT looks nice, allthoug black.
Odd that something isn't available for around $250. I really like the shape of the Busse ... wonder how much it would cost with a bit 'simpler' steel (D2/S30V/VG-10) and a simpler handles (no talon hole / skull crusher butt pommel )

Bark River is coming out with the Rogue, a seven inch bowie in un-coated A2. It should be out anytime, but you would have to check with one of their dealers to get one on order. Not sure how much they will be though.

You might consider a Finnish Leuku knife. http://www.ragweedforge.com/FinnishKnifeCatalog.html
These are very cool, traditional knives. Get really sharp, too :)

Also, look around the AG Russell catalog site, several in the 6-1/2 to 7 inch range, just hit the knives, by type, straight, on the toolbar.

Or you could search E-Bay for an old Buck General, those were kinda cool. :)

I'd suggest a Swamp Rat Knife Works -- Desert Camp Tramp - $138.95
"Many consider a 7-1/2" long blade to be the ideal size for a camp knife. Once you handle the Camp Tramp you'll have a hard time disagreeing with this assessment. It offers the benefits of the time-proven Bowie style blade with the incredible performance of SR-101 steel and the comfort of the shock absorbing Resiprene C handle. Once your friends borrow this blade and use it around the campsite, you'll find out why its called the Camp Tramp. Everyone will want their turn and you'll have a hard time getting it back. Better strap a GPS to it if you want to keep track of it."
Text from Swamp Rat Knife Works - Knives

I realize that it's not exactly what you are looking for but it is a great all-round 7 1/2" fixed blade. The Resiprene C will not soak up DEET or other chemicals. If the material gets cut you can heat it up with a lighter and mold it back together. It is also less prone to giving you hot spots/blisters after long use than Micarta. As for the blade coating, if you really don't like it you can strip it off with paint remover and give it your own satin finish. And there is also the warranty that cannot be beat.

Good luck on your search,
~Drew

I doubt if this is what you are looking for, but the Camillus CUDA CQB-1 has a satin ATS-34 blade that's almost 6 inches long (5.75"), and it has black/green canvas micarta scales and a full-length tang. It comes with a nice kydex sheath.

Well, the Bark River Rogue comes with satin uncoated A2 carbon steel with black/green canvas micarta and a leather sheath. That makes 2 out of 2 from your specs. Roger of www.knifewoks.com will have some coming in as soon as production ramps up. No pictures yet at his site but some descriptions and prices. Bark River Rogue

Had a look at all of them

Busse Natural Outlaw
Becker Extreme (new) / BK7
Ontario Rat 7 D2
ICC Knives
Fehrman First Stike
Bark River Roque A2
Swamp Rat Knife Works - Desert Camp Tramp
Camillus CUDA CQB-1

The Becker, Busse, Feherman Strike all are a bit too 'combat/tactial' for me.
The Camp Tramp a bit less tactical but a black blade an d no micarta
The Ontario Rat 7 D2 looks great, has Micarta handles only it's a black blade,
ICC knives & the Camillus aren't really my thing.

So that leaves the Bark River Roque, well, if it's gonna be a 7" version of the Bark River Highland Green Micarta then I'm sold! :) - The 4" Highland looks great, nice simple lines, full tang...I might just need to get one of these also
Did anybody see a proto of this one yet? maybe at a blade show?

Thanks for all the tips,
Ted
