I am looking to try and use sandpaper for sharpening, and I am not sure what grits to get, and where to get them.

I did a google search and came up with a bunch of threads, but none of them really stated the grits that you should use, and where you could get them.

Can anyone help? I would like to know what grits I should get, and where I could get them.

I would needgrits for everything from a dull knife, up to a polished edge.

Start with 250, and end about 2000, you can skip a few, but you want wet dry sold just about anywhere. If you want to convex the edge, put a mouse pad under it, if not just c-clamp it to the table.

Wet/dry automotive paper is available at Walmart, and auto parts stores. I doubt you will have much luck with grits below 320.

FYI - The 'wet or dry' paper should be black and say "silicon carbide" somewhere on it.

I'd get 320, 400, 600, and 2400 grits.

Find an automotive paint supply store. English Color is a good choice. You can get grits up to 2000.

Or hit an auto body shop and see if they will sell you some sheets. Thats what I did when I tried out sandpaper method. A good body shop will have a full selection of grits.
