To sand down the handle scales?

Going to hand shape the mag scales on my CG ASH and wanted to know what grit I should use.

Start with the lower numbers (coarse grit) to get the initial shape and then work up to the higher (finer grits) for the final finish. Perhaps start off with 50 or 60, then work up to 220-240 and see how it goes. If you like a smoother feeling handle, work up to the extra fine or super fine grits (320-600).

I figured I would start with 320 and just put some elbow grease into it.

The funny thing is that I have made several batches of micarta but never have put them on a knife so I have no idea how to finish it but I know how to make it.

yeah, definitely start low. really low. it'll take a long time by hand. i used some 80 and it was slow going

I start off with 80, but I won't use anything higher than 150. Use smooths it out just right after that.

I was shaping some G10 scales for my first hand made knife. Using some 80 grit sheets, it hardly seemed to make much progress. That stuff is stinking hard!

I really need to get a small table top belt sander this Christmas and finish this dang knife up.
