What handle should I put on this?

Hello Op...A 32inch curve with a nice deep belly and narrow throat would be my choice. I'm sure whatever you choose will work well.

regards...Frank.

Now that's gotta be a real dilemma to have NOS top quality axe heads in your possession and not have physically experienced what they were meant to do, and what makes them so good.
Just kidding, Re post from 300six:D.
32" curved, and a nice banana grind, grind some off the poll they tend to kind of fat in the rear:)

Holy shit! You bought that one? That was too rich for my blood. Congratulations! That is not only a good investment, but it's also a beaut!

Before you hang it, you should really grind the ridges out of the eye.

(I'm sorry for that.)

33" curved octagonal with a nice large un-clipped fawn's foot. All sapwood, aged in indirect sunlight for several years to bring out the natural colors. Finished with 4 coats of BLO and 4 coats of tung.

And work that bit over real good with a bench grinder until you draw a pretty blue color! ;)

But seriously, if you touch that bit with a sharpening tool you should be crucified, or better still, stoned to death.

I watched that one pass by and just whistled "Ain't it pretty". Real treasures remain to be found.
Congrats on that one. I figure these get found by guys cleaning out basements for free, keeping what they find.

Friend of mine once found an original wanted poster for John Dillinger in a 20.00 Post Office desk.

I'm not gonna lie, I was secretly hoping you would buy this one. I have long admired the quality of the pieces in your collection and I'm sure this axe has found a good home. Feel free to PM me if you are looking for something a little EXTRA special for the handle on this one. I think I have something suitable for such a fine axe head.

Since I'm being admonished by moosecreek trails regarding NOS collector goodies being put in service I can only say: please take some video footage of the first time that axe bites into a conifer and the label gets all gummed up or scuffs off. I purposely don't seek NOS heads for that very reason. Surely there is a 'previously-enjoyed' rendition of that exact same axe head out there somewhere.

To each his own in the world of axes...

I don't think the point was about using "collector goodies." I think the point is that just because someone has some unused axe heads you should not assume that he or she has not used others that may be very similar or identical. Besides, there is nothing strange or unique about collecting.

You've entirely got me wrong there. I carefully gathered up a collection of axes over the past 4 decades and then discovered there was more joy in using and appreciating them then there was in admiring the lifeless bodies of NOS or OEM versions on a shelf. But the temptation to museum curate is always there whenever you get in over your head and forget why you started seeking out specific axes in the first place. But that doesn't mean I'd haft that particular head and turn it into any one of 1000s of others that have been used.

M3mphis,
"Besides, there is nothing strange or unique about collecting. " I am going to forward this to my wife!!! She is more than a little concerned.

I think I'd get a lot of pleasure out of hafting it and hanging it up somewhere. its a pretty one and a very nice collectors item that will no doubt climb in value with the seemingly ever-increasing interest in the Kelly Perfects and the ever-decreasing diminishment of them available.

I still have the old bendy plastic handle I cut of my browning in my scrap pile. I'd only charge you shipping :)
