What handles to get on a Custom?

I'm potentially getting a custom blade made by the Busse Custom Shop. I haven't decided exactly what, but it will be a 3-4" blade. Anyways, I can't get Tigerhide, so I have to decide what handle material to use and what color I want. I'm having an incredibly hard time deciding what I want. I definitely want something special.

If you were getting an EDC sized satin custom Busse, what handles would you choose?

If anyone has some pics for inspiration, I'd love to see them.

Thanks in advance!

I would go with wood or one of the multi-colored fabric micartas, like tan and black (perhaps aka tigerhide) or black and tan. I just like the way they look--less artificial than g10. you may want micartas if you use it often but I have no problem handling wood handles.

hand smoothed of course
and all my preference too of course

good luck choosing. sure it will end up well any way you choose

I do greatly prefer Micarta to G-10, for the reasons you stated. Tigerhide was my first choice, but that was a no go according to the shop. I was looking through the Knoboganza pictures for inspiration, and saw the SAR-3 Variant with what appears to be blue handsanded canvas Micarta. That one is definitely on the top of my list.

If it's going to be a true EDC, definitely smooth micarta. Will they do one in snakeskin for you? I think I prefer the newer snakeskin to the older stuff. Some of the linen micarta I've seen looks Custom Shop worthy too. Have you considered jazzing it up with some liners as well?

EDIT: Or maybe something G-rex'd, using a canvas micarta.

Chris.

If it's from the Custom Shop I would get something with an ergo handle and have magnum slabs put on it.

Why?

Because I've never seen an ergo handle with magnum slabs.

Hey, I have that variant :) It does appear to be kind of grayish blue, but I'm not sure what it is exactly. I just assumed it was black canvas..... maybe Busse has some Micarta stock they aren't making obvious :p
I believe it's also beadblasted since the double cut blade and mosaic pins went through the beadblasting machine. Maybe it is black and the beadblasting gave it that bluish hue. I don't know, I would ask Garth, but that is a very cool color that I think I will do some more research on. If it's a distinct Micarta, I'll have to change my current custom order to have that one instead.

I think it also depends on the knife style/blade shape. What is it that you are getting from the custom shop? G-rexed with natural materials and liners is always bling, and then there are other combos you can do with handle/liner colors to contrast I think always look great. I used to only love canvas micarta but now I have a thing for G-10 with patterns cut into it. I really think it depends on the knife.

That blue hand shaped will be very hard to beat. Nothing tops micarta IMO.

Hm, it seems to just be black canvas.

Who knew it could look like that?
I'll get better pictures once I get the knife back in possession if you're still looking for suggestions. It might be in two or three weeks.

I like black paper, but not sure if you can still get it from Busse. You can get them to sand/polish the canvas micarta to a darker finish that still has a matte look. The linen can be polished to look about as dark as G10.

I like the canvas done a little darker than on there normal slabs, but not real dark. I have a CS Cultie that has the same mosaic pins and black canvas as the knife in the above pic, but just a little darker. Great looking combo IMO.

A non micarta material I like a lot is Rams Horn. It is very light, and grips really well when bloody or wet.

Black linen, green linen (not from Busse, theirs is usually prettier), Tigerhide linen. I like the black best. ;)

have you seen the Taco flauge ? :)

I really like hand shaped tan canvas. Kind of has the look of a natural material but you get all the benefits of micarta. Just my opinion, there are lots of options.
