What happend to the links section?

The software we used for the links section was called IndexFinger, and initially was decent enough to use. Cost was reasonable at $120 per year for subscriptions, etc.

Then we started finding all sorts of bugs with it. Site names could not be updated, or links changed. Ratings wouldn't work. Sites would double or triple when we'd add them, or the wrong site would be removed when we deleted them. Searches would turn up the wrong site altogether. Click through tracking wouldn't work at all.

Despite all the bug reports, the provider decided things were fine - and took the ostrich approach, burying their face in the sand. In the mean time, they upped their prices fourfold. Any criticism would up with having your liscense yanked whether your subscription was up or not.

With all of the problems we had with the software and the (lack of) support for it, we decided not to renew our subscription.

The Link's Section <b>will</b> return. We will be moving to Gossamer Links SQL, found here at http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/links-sql/index.htm

It uses a SQL database backend which means faster searchs and a more robust directory can be built.

The drawback to this is cost - it's $450, which is a sizeable chunck of change, since the software for the forums itself is cheaper. When a few more Gold Members and Dealers have signed up, we'll get it up and running again.

So People,

Another good reason to upgrade your membership....

So Ralph, do you think that it is all a plot by Spark to keep the links section from us? What are you so mad about?

How about this, if you want the links section back, why don't you get yourself a gold membership and in the area where you can leave a message let him know why you have given your support.

And while I'm at it . . . why don't you and the horse you rode in on go straight to hell. ;)
