Hi all

Well, I am longtime member... but haven't been here for YEARS!

I used to be a collector of fine custom knives but then other things came into my life... :) Now I try to catch up with my old hobby!

It seems things have changed because I cannot get hold of some makers anymore.

In 2002 Terry Primos made a beautiful Dress Tactical for me and this knife is still a great companion on hikes. Also the contact with Terry was fantastic.
Now his homepage www.primosknives.com is out of order...

Dan Farr was on my radar years ago. Now I can see his homepage was last updated in 2004 with his next show attendance...

Keith Coleman was a favorite foldermaker of mine. His homepage is gone...

Mastersmith Mike Williams also has an outdated homepage out there. Show attendance in 2002...

May someone please tell me what happened to all those guys???
Thank you very much!

Terry Primos got out of the knifemaking business.

Dan Farr is still making great knives, but not taking orders.

Not sure about Keith Coleman.

Mike Williams is still making his excellent knives as well. He is probably one of those people that doesn't spend much time on updating his website.

When last I heard, Terry wasn't making knives any more.

Dan in certainly alive and well and turning out some great stuff. His table at Blade will positively rock. His old web site hasn't been updated because a new one is in the pipes.

Mike is still turning out some classics - he was at Blade last year with some very nice pieces.

Thanks so far.

Too bad that Terry stopped making knives... I can recall he made even his JS stamp. And the MS was not far away from him.:(

Terry Primos went full time a few years ago and just couldn't make it work. IIRC, the way he explained it was that he had what I call the Nick Wheeler syndrome.;) Everything had to be done to absolute perfection (which is a good thing) and he just couldn't turn out enough knives to pay the bills. Unfortunately, he did not go back to making knives part time. Hopefully, someone will eventually be able to talk him into it because he made some superb knives.

Terry went through some times that ended up making it impossible for him to continue. He had run out of cash and was working seven days a week just to try to keep up. It seemed to me that all the hardships had taken the enjoyment out of knifemaking for Terry.

Maybe someday we will see that Terry will get the fire again and start making knives once more.

Keith Coleman is retired from knifemaking - a combination of the downturn in business after 9/11 and getting tired of eating steel dust, as he told me. A super nice guy who helped me quite a bit when I was learning to make knives.
