What the heck happened on the SOG threads in the last month or so ?

I have to be honest and say this.........I hope Chris can somehow wipe the slate clean so we can get back to what the original idea was and simply start a SOG club.

Here is my opinion on what has happened in the last few weeks and please don't anyone get mad at me for giving my opinon.

We members and SOG knife nuts were going to start a SOG club. Somehow the next few times I read the threads I had to double check the forum to make sure I was not on a dating forum.........:confused:

This should have been VERY simple to do. We did not need all the drama that came with the other threads..........I have been here for years and never seen or read such threads on the SOG knife forum.

Again, this should have been VERY simple to do.

We just needed a SOG DOG #1 and so on. This Alpha stuff in my opinion is not needed at all. Just assigned numbers to all members and then comes what should have been all along............knife "related" discussions and posting pics etc.

I have to be honest and say I am VERY embarrassed to read the past few weeks of threads and hope that somehow we can erase them all and start over or simply move on with the club.

This is a knife forum for SOG knives, not a dating/discussion family problems discussion forum IMO.

I tried reading through all the threads and to be honest it was too much, I felt sick at my stomach and VERY embarrassed knowing other possible members were having to read all this stuff while considering joining the club.

I have a close friend who is a member but has never posted much on here and I ask him to read from top to bottom and give me his honest opinion.

He read about three threads and told me he simply could not read them anymore...........to much crap he said...........please don't ask me to do it he said !

As mentioned in the other thread I come here to discuss about SOG knives, the good and bad of them. Isn't that what bladeforums is all about? The discussion of knives?

I have been quite polite and refrained from speaking out because I could see the hard work bored2death had been putting in. I liked his enthusiasm, but it was a little too overpowering for me to scroll through the many threads every day when I visit. Certain things didn't go well with me, but I didn't want to be the party pooper.

The SOG collectors club is a good idea, and I'm all for it.

Probably will have to wait for Chris to clarify what is going on and what is going to become of the contests. Hopefully SOG will honor its word and give the prizes to the winners, since they agreed to sponsor it.

Keep posts short and sweet, unless you're providing very useful information (such as a knife review) IMHO.
 
I have found that with many forums or discussion boards some members just aren't smart or clever enough to offer real insight on the true intent of the forum, so they instigate.

In essence they are merely trolling the forum.

You sum'd it up pretty well Robbie.

I think we're getting back on track now and returning things to the original direction.

I spoke with Chris yesterday. He's been out of town but will be reading things over the next few days and posting his comments.
He was still positive about the idea, so I'm hopeful we can proceed in the intended direction.

tattoosteve99 and Pinkmonkey seem like excellent choices to lead the group. Two motivated and thoughtful people working together, as they do, should be a real plus.

A couple of members were nice enough to say I should be the "administrator", not sure what that is, but it seems flattering. :D
If it means me helping the leader(s) and members in any way I can, I have no problem with that.

I would like to say that even though it may appear that I added to the "drama", that was not my intention at all. I'm sorry that it kinda worked out that way. I just wanted some feedback & I got it! Oddly enough it wasn't from many Sog Dogs though lol...

Whats to be mad at ? You are 100 % correct. The Sog forum looks like the fifth grade teacher left the class room and all hell broke out. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. Lets keep it about Sog Products. It's not Dear Abby. All the BS threads need to be deleted while we still have some face....maybe too late.
 
Bladeforums does not like to delete discussion threads. A better idea would be to lock them and let them drift off the front page and on into oblivion.

We see this from time to time, a little excitement, a bit of off-topic digression in a forum. Not a problem as long as it's just a passing phase. We do have Whine & Cheese for drama. :)

I didnt' think a thread could be deleted, or certainly its preferred not too.
Most of the threads fairly decent, but some contain messages that would have better been left unwritten. But I guess there are lessons to be learned from those.
I'll think we're back on track now.

I'm about to give up the interest in the SOG forum when I read stuff like "where are the leaders?".
I don't need any leaders, especially on an internet forum.

Absolutely. I saw things going South a few weeks ago. If I want to know about people's personal lives, I'll ask them...actually, no I won't, as I couldn't give a hoot. This is a knife forum and I like to share an interest in SOG knives. As for a membership in a club, I think I'll pass. Someone else can have #5. As Groucho Marx said, 'I don't want to be in a club that would have me as a member'. ;)
 
These club ideas can ruin otherwise good discussion forums,in my opinion.Too much snobbery starts taking root.
 
after reading all the high school stuff, i know its not SOG or the real knife people, maybe just a few others who got caught up in the whole "group" "click" thing. but hopefully we can get the SOG forum back on track and talk about SOG knives. and what makes SOG a great EDC or hiking knife. and help the people who arent familiar with SOG make their first choice on a knife they had an eye on...so come on lets kill the childish SH*T and talk SOG. You think "The GUnny" would put up with this CHildish BS. Hell no!!!

Agreed. I didn't intend on getting caught up in anything, I honestly thought that's how things were around here. Hence the thread of wanting to know what members thought. I got kinda dragged into it when I was named as an "alpha", Steve was as well. There was no discussion. We were doing what we thought was best for the forum. Who knows lol.
We are just normal people, we love knives, he is extremely knowledgable in all that he talks about in here be it knives, or anything else. He puts his whole mind into all he does. I just want you all to see that before you jump to judging. I don't want to see a talented person get put down over some silly bs.

I would absolutely love to start over and learn about SOG and all that comes with it. Steve is teaching me a lot. I already knew some but we can all stand to learn more!

I can certainly understand where you coming from, and if your decision is final I will remove your name.

You're both absolutely correct, and I think Chris has corrected that and we are back on track to discuss the sort of things we came here to discuss.
