What Happened to Benchmade Serialized Limited Editions?

A few years ago Benchmade was offering various serialized limited editions of Blue and Black class knives. These knives were usually made in batches of around 500 pieces, and were upgrades from the regular models. They were also priced within the Blue and Black class range, meaning that they were affordable user-knives versus more artsy Gold class stuff. One example was a limited serialized run of the Griptilian with a CPM-M4 blade.

I have noticed that Benchmade has released various "upgraded" versions of models of the Griptilian with grey/blue G10, and that they are selling different blade options for the Griptilian, as well as other knives. I have not noticed any limited edition runs of Blue or Black class knives that were Serialized. I thought the serialized knives were cool because you could say "hey, I own #178 out of 500 pieces, and out there somewhere are 499 other people with this same special knife".

Note: Dealer exclusives in which the knives are limited to any given dealer, but not Serialized, are not the same thing. I have noticed some limited-to-dealer runs, but not any of the Serialized runs.

Any thoughts on this?

It could be entirely possible that BMK put their LE's on hold until they released all the new '16 model lineup (still waiting on a few).. They also have to prep for Shot and Blade in the beginning of the year which diverts attention to other projects. There's only so much you can handle at one time.

My guess is that the LE's will start to trickle out in the months after Blade.

Any info on price and potential release date?

Negative, I came across it on the BKC home forum, another member posted it. You might try calling their customer service, they'd probably tell you or give you a rough estimate.

Will do, thanks. I'll post up anything I find out if it helps.

They said "it won't ship for another couple of months and MSRP is $260" direct quote from email reply.

I have been doing some "research" lately, and I found that Benchmade releases an "upgraded" Blue or Black class model for the SHOT show each year. These are usually Serialized. I wish they did more of these yearly rather than the "Unlimited Limiteds".

There was a limited edition Ares last year that was a 250 piece run, but it was exclusive to an overseas dealer so it was a bit pricey. Other than that I can only think of the SHOT knives and the recent Blade show knife, that one's pricey too though.

I don't know but I only have three off the top of my head a 750 limited run of red/black G-10 Grip. A 250 limited run of green/black Ares, And a 50 Limited run of blue anodized sequel with carbon fiber inlays. Looking for more as they come around.
