I've just realised that since the past week, the website no longer has the scolling menu for the different forums at the bottom of the page....and I can no longer find the Spyderco and other Maker's forums....is it me, or has the website been changed?

Second that. I really liked the "Jump To" pull down menu.

I think BladeForums has just about reached the limits of the current server. Updates to the server are probably going to have to be done some time soon. Either that or more and more things are going to have to be removed to give needed bandwidth.

Bandwidth isn't the problem. Server resources are.

We're running a dual PIII 850mhz box with 1gB in RAM and RAID 5 configured superfast HD's. The server is getting creamed during heavy traffic periods.

If it gets much worse, I'm going to have to look at other ways to limit things that drag down the CPU... or prune away much of the archives. Needless to say, that would not make me happy. The only other option is another new server - major $$$$ but regardless that is a temporary solution.

Hey Kevin...

Have you ever thought about burning an Archive CD ???

It would need an interface,,so it could be viewed properly...

I think it would be a nice thing to have,,to be able to browse through a CD like this...

It would be a Real loss if something happened to it..
Theres so much information in those Archives its really incredible...
Its really priceless and should somehow be saved...

ttyle

Eric...

I've given serious thought to it, but the problem is getting access to the information once it's been downloaded.

This issue has been brought up several times with the writers of the software... whether or not they will take action is another matter.

Isn't success fun?!!

Have you thought about doing some archive CD's, then putting those threads onto some non-RAID drives (at what, 1/10 the cost of a RAID disk). No sense wasting the good hardware on threads that aren't used much, but the performance should be better than a CD. And you've got the CD as a backup. Just a thought...

The problem is that there is no way to seperate the database like that - and currently this software does not support any sort of archiving past a primative "lock the thread and forum" workaround that *isn't*

I'd love a BFC CD-ROM that I could turn around and provide.
