What happened to Braveheart?

When the Romans ruled Briton they forbade the native Britons to possess weapons en masse. This eventually led to an almost defenseless population. Later small armies of Anglo-Saxons easily took over the former Roman province. The Scots however were never disarmed, and so retained much more independence. I guess they finally got them disarmed.
