What happened to CTS-BD30P and CTS-B75?

Some time ago Spyderco released a Manix2 in this steel and it was purported to rival CPM-S30V on many levels. Some discussed it was also supposed to be Carpenters improved version of S30V. Are there any plans to make any other Golden knives with this steel? That Manix2 was initially supposed to be released with B75P (equivalent of BG42), but it never came to fruition. Anything in the pipeline for a B75P knife?

As some here may know, I am a fan of the Para2 and feel this would be an ideal platform for the steel. I wouldn't be upset if Sal decided on a Manix2 or Military though.

I was just wondering this same thing while using my B75P mule the other day. It's my only mule, and I don't notice a huge performance difference between it and something like S30V*, so maybe that's why it dropped off the radar (on the forums at least). On the other hand, many people have been ho-hum when seeing new releases in S30V, so maybe something relatively similar in performance/cost but different in name would get people more excited?

*I took no time to look at compositions or tests or anything to determine if S30V and B75P are similar at all. I just know both are stainless and PM. I just bought the B75P mule because it came out when I wanted a mule.

I like the Manix2 in BD30P it takes a great polished edge and has great edge retention for cardboard, packaging material, those colored straps that are found on pallets, and other things one might encounter throughout the day. The BG42 Military I have has seen a little use and it's definitely impressive, maybe not enough to impress some metallurgical geniuses though but I like it just fine. :p

Similar results with my Manix2 BD30P as Revdevil. Completely satisfied with it and would like to see more of it. Sal can make it happen.

I also found that my BD30P Manix performs very well. Though, it is a bit thick behind the edge, it gets very sharp and holds that edge longer than S30V in my experience.

Would you guys be interested in a Manix2 LW with either of these steels in say a black FRCP? Maybe a Native or Para2? Based on the cost prohibitiveness (sic) that Sal has mentioned in some situations, I'm trying to think of what would be the least expensive way to fly. If the S110V Manix2 runs about $110, then it might be doable. I don't imagine that B75P or BD30P would be as hard on belts and other equipment as much as 110V is.

I would enjoy more knives with B75P! I was tempted to get a ZT 0600 just for the steel but the size and price made me pass. But a Manix or Military in it would be awesome! It's a nice steel that takes a keen edfe and holds it well from my uses in the kitchen

absolutely love my Manix2 in BD30P. Actually became the knife that kicked my Sebenza out of normal rotation. Would buy anything in that steel and be happy.

Add me to the list. I was beginning to think that I was the only one who wanted to see more of B75P. Manix, Military, Para or Delica, I'd be on board for any one of them. I've wanted to try BG42 for a long time, but it went scarce before I got into the game. Good thread, Rev. I hope it yields results.

I'm not really crazy about the Manix 2 lock. I do like the BD steel however, and would like to see it used in the Military or Para.

Sorry I did not see this thread before today. I would be ecstatic to see cts-b75 in a mili, para, or manix2 LW.

I saw BD-1 for Manix2 LW. Does this mean CTS B75P costs as much as S30V? The purpose I can see for LW model to use less expensive metal make sense. If B75 does not offer advantage (in some aspect of the steel) per buck, it may not be as favored as BD-1?

I don't know what you are trying to get at exactly but....BD-1 is not close to B75P or S30V at all. It is close to 440C in corrosion resistance and cutting performance. I asked about a light weight handle because it lessens the cost of a production run, compared to having the same model with steel liners, G10, etc. The cost of the steel was not insinuated at all beyond the suggested platform of the M2 LW. I have no way to calculate the cost of the steel for Spyderco or anyone else really. Not sure how much is bought at once, etc. Did you read the first post? That kind of explains a bit more in detail what this is all about.

It seems that many of Carpenter's new particle steels have shown a lot of promise.

My personal experience has been testing several blades in their CTS-XHP, and I admit to being quite impressed.

It seems to me that even though there is a demand for some of these steels, the supply is slow in coming.

I suspect we will see many knifemakers using the Carpenter steels when it is more available from their suppliers.

I think if the new Native Lightweight is a hit that'd be a great platform for trying out these steels. Nice and small with great ergos, what's not to like? I'd be in for a few of each steel if that were to happen
