What happened to EDI, when and why did they go out of bussiness? I need another Genesis I handle scale, as I do live this knife but hate it's underfinished handle scale.:( someone please help.

Sorry to bring ill tidings, but EDI went out of business almost a year ago. Another victim of the highly competitive knife business(like Speed Tech).

I 've seen some going for $65 at ebay and other auction sites. A big price drop from the original price they were selling for and a bargain IMO. I have two-one I bought from a fellow forumite thats rock solid and one I got at an auction that wobbles all over the place.

It was sad to see EDI go. I really liked the Genesis had hoped to see other models as well.

I know what you mean. They really had a bright future when Will Fennell was president: Genesis in A2 and Talonite, and the Paratus fixed blade. Unfortunately, none of those products ever saw production

It was a very sad day, but the picture got much brigher since the folks at Camilus picked up Will and gave him some rope for his enthusiasm and ideas.

Tough to find as nice and as dedicated of a knife person as Will.

Now that Will is with Camillus, is there any chance of seeing some EDI designs produced by Camillus?

Definitely not, unless Camillus purchases the rights or gets permission othewise from whoever owns the Paratus and Genesis designs (Mike Collins maybe? Since he primarily designed those knives...)

Notice how Camillus is coming out with some fantastic stuff recently? Is this the result of Will's influence?

Any idea who owns the patent on their Rock Lock? That's what I was really looking forward to from EDI. I got to handle a Rock Lock prototype at a SHOT show a few years ago, and was very interested in seeing an actual product.

Toothed,

There is no question that the neat new stuff coming from Camillus is a result of Will's involvement. Developing this type of product is exactly what his job is. Take care.

Joe - it maybe Michael Collins who owns the patent to the Rock Lock since the knife is his design.

I really like the EDI too.
Girlfriend bought me one for $125 before Id even seen one in person.
It looked like a near perfect carry size for the blade size and shape and had beautiful lines.
Got mine partially serrated with black coated blade.
Very happy with it.
I sliced the top of my big toe within an hour of playing with it.
Dont ask how. Very sharp.
My only complaint is the liner lock test, which it fails miserably.
Lock it, put thumb on back and push. Blade snaps over onto fore finger.
Ouch! and another paralell cut to the hall of shame from other knives who've failed the same way.
Funny how when you expect a knife to hold you don't take precautions.
The lock face is clean and only slightly angled but doesnt hold hardly at all.
Since EDI is out of business I will have to fix it myself.
Any ideas?

Sorry to revive this old thread, but someone e-mailed me saying that they could help me out. I unfortunately lost that e-mail and can't for the life of me find it. If this person is still out there please e-mail me again.

I picked upa genesis II in a trade. What a beautiful knife. It was well built and fit very comfortably in my hand. It locked up tighter than a Nun's, oops, never mind. but I went looking for a genesis I. Learned the bad news. Now I cannot find an EDI anywhere.....wolf
Anyone have any idea where you might find a REAL one?......wolf:(

Just looked on the web page at www.knifecenter.com, and they have genI's and GenII's. they only have the gen I in combo edge, black coat, and they have all the genII's. hope this helps!

prices aren't reduced though, from what i can tell....
