What Happened to Local Knife Clubs?

I really enjoy Bladeforums, and I wish there were local knife clubs where I could meet face-to-face with fellow enthusiasts. It seems like they used to be more common, but now I am only able to find two active knife clubs in the entire state of North Carolina - the closest one over an hour away.

Do you belong to a local knife club? Are you aware of any close to where you live?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Same thing that is happening to Fish & Game Clubs, Bowling Leagues, Masonic Temples, etc. Too many things to do, too many options, including sitting home and watching your big screen TV like I'm guilty of.

Heck, it's hard enough to just buy a decent pocketknife around here.

Have you seen the regional forum section? Not many people post or read there, but you might organize a meet up.

Also, more people work weekends and evenings than in the past, or work irregular schedules. Not only do Americans have less leisure time than in the past, but many have irregular or off-hour work shifts that make it impossible to commit to events and clubs that have set schedules. Some group has a meeting every Saturday afternoon at 1pm, for example, I'd be lucky to make it once a month or once every two months.

Many years ago I read a newspaper — it may have been The St. Louis American, but I won't swear to it — with crime blotter columns called "The Knife Club" and "The Gun Club." Typical (but fictitious) entry:

On Friday evening last, Mr. ABC of ***** joined The Knife Club and enrolled Mr. XYZ of ***** by stabbing him with a steak knife while he was eating beans at Smokey Joe's Cafe.

Thanks, Bob, I considered this - people might too busy for even monthly meetings. I wonder if bi-monthly or quarterly meetings would be a better option, to make knife clubs more viable?

Anyone in central North Carolina (Burlington/Durham/Raleigh/Chapel Hill) interested in starting one? :)
