I have a princeton tec vortec or maybe its a predator pro (4AA) that I bought new 6 or 7 years ago after my first year in scouts. Its a great lamp, bit heavy, but reliable and durable. And that it is made in usa, with the best customer service ever (I have a great story), and was advertised with all other ptec headlamps when I bought it...waterproof to 2000ft. While I doubted that, I have dunked the lamp many times, once it went down at least 15 feet. It worked fine afterwards...just had to open it up and dry off the o ring once I got home.
So you can imagine my shock when I got bored the other day and looked at their website. Their vortec/predator series is now rated as 1 m waterproof max. Most of their lamps are just water resistant and a few are imported now. But the two I was looking at buying down the road (the scout and the apex) are still made in usa, have got great reviews, and have the world's best service (petzl cant match it) behind them. I know the scout would not survive a major dunking very well, but the apex is one of those '1m' waterproof like the rating on my old school vortec/predator.
Anyways I am still happy with the direction ptec has gone, but I am just shocked that their best lamps are now officially only waterproof to 1m! I can expect them to back off from 2000ft, these aren't diving lamps, but 1m...
There probably wasn't a point to this post, but if anyone knows the deal behind this let me know.
