Just clicked on the "Specials" Icon on bottom of Buck homepage and it came up empty. What gives? Are they changing the specials up? Let's hope that more striders will be put up on specials page again. Do I smell another Buck clearance sale??

We encoutered some internal issues that have to be delt with before we can list any more knives on the specials page. Hopefully we will have it all resolved this week.
Sorry for the delay.

Thanks for the reply Joe Houser. I will be keeping my eyes open for that specials page.

Sorry for asking this here, but I apparently am too new to be able to PM you Mr Houser.

I recently ordered a Buck, 'Diamondback' fixed blade 9" overall in ballastic type sheath. It's marked 471t on one side and Buck/Taiwan on the other. The dealer I bought from could'nt supply me any info. Can you? I want to know what type of steel is this? Will it hold a good enough edge to be used as a camp knife for baton wood splitting 4-6" dry wood? What's the handle made from rubber? Is it a full tang through the handle?

Apologies for posting this in this thread, but I want to know if I'm returning or keeping this knife ASAP. This is my first Buck purchase after being very disappointed with Schrade folders, and a fixed blade 1410t guthook of theirs.

Thanks 1Tracker

Hello 1tracker,
I am not a Buck rep. But I have used a Diamondback. It will be sharp as hell! I would say steel is 420HC? Should be on the package? The rubber handle is very durable, though I dont know if its considered 100% full tang,It doesnt stick out the back of the handle. I would say it would be an excellent camp knife it beats the heck out of the edge retention of a schrade! But for splitting wood? - I would buy a nice Buck hatchet/axe. A 9" knife is not very big for splitting wood... :D

WH4F Thanks for replying about your Buck Diamondback. The mark on the blade says, Taiwan on one side and '471t' on the other. I am thinking more of splitting sticks for the fire with this knife with a baton hit on the spine, say 4-6" stuff, just to get things going. It seems pretty sharp out of the box, I was just concerned about the steel quality.

As for the tang, it's important to me to feel confident in the knife, that I am holding the tang in my hand as I apply force with the blade. As I mentioned in my previous post, a Schrade 1410t 's blade started coming up through the front of it's handle when I used it for 2-3 minutes in the same manner as I intend to use this knife. Obviuosly not a quality knife, nor full tang.

At least there is a group of people who respect this brand, Buck, enough to be here; and I guess that says a lot about the company as a whole. And, unlike Schrade, they are still in business!

For it's heft, the Diamondback is a pretty good feeling knife in the hand.

Thanks for replying, 1Tracker

1tracker,
IF I wanted a good knife for camp I would lean towards a Buck 120, 119, but probably a nighthawk... That has a 3/16" thick blade. VERY durable!
All Bucks are sharp! In my experience they stay sharper alot longer than any schrade I have ever used. I no longer own a schrade... Dull easily and the pocket clips break off or strip out... NO MORE :D Otherwise post a new thread and I am sure Joe or Larry will reply when they have time! Good luck!

O.K enough hijacking this thread. Now back to the original topic. Almost Labor Day and still no Specials on Buck web page.
