What happened to the calypso jr?

I've been doing some research on which knife to buy for myself and i've found a lot of posts praising the calypso jr for its awesome sharpness. I'm just curious to what ever happened to the knife and why they don't make anymore with that same ZDP189 steel.

These were done in a one-time sprint run. 1200 pieces if I recall correctly. They were a hot item from the git go and were never truly easy to find. You may try posting an ad in the "want to buy" section of this forum. Maybe someone has an extra laying around. Expect to pay the price however.

Sal has said that the Calypso Jr. appeals to knife afficionados (i.e., folks geeky enough to talk about knives on a forum) but not to the general public, and as a result the Calypso Jr.'s sales were too low to continue as a regular model. But that same characteristic makes the Calypso Jr a good testing platform for new steels and the like -- it lets Spyderco put out a new steel on a knife that knife geeks will flock to. Doing a ZDP version of the delica is a way to introduce that steel to the rest of us.

I can not wait to get my ZDP Delica!!! I LOVE my Caly, Jr. ZDP too, it is an amazing knife!!! I feel very LUCKY to have been able to get a Caly, Jr. ZDP. I absolutely LOVE the burgundy handles, black clip, and gold Spyder on the blade.

My Caly is gotta be the sharpest knife I own, or have ever seen. In fact I dont carry it as a EDC now cause I cut myself on it 2 times and I figure to give my poor finger a rest.
New EDC is the D'allara PE

Anyone who didn't get the ZDP Caly must be cursing themselves. It is the most efficient cutter I have ever owned. It raises the term scary sharp to a new level.

Yep. I'd quite like to see a Calypso Jr. with a blade made from a good tool steel run at full hard.

The more I get to use carbon steels, the more I like them, and the Calypso with it's great edge geometry would be perfect with a nice carbon blade.

I think this is a platform that will continue to sprout up now and again. Sal has been whispering about a bolstered fancy Caly Jr. lately. Maybe next year or 2007.

I bought 2. Cut myself and didnt even feel it 5 mins after i bought my first one. One thing neat about that ZDP-189, youy can rub it back and forth on the length of your finger and it just feels different and makes a different noise. Maybe i'm just easily amused but i thought i'd throw that in.....and you have to admit the burgundy, gold and black make a very attractive piece!!................p

My spyder hasn't chipped, yet. And it has been in my pocket everyday since it arrived.

I love the knife, though I don't EDC too often. I liked it so much, before I knew it I had three of them.

Mine chipped once before the first sharpening. I reprofiled it to an even shallower angle (~12 degrees per side) and it has not chipped since despite nearly daily carry and use. It's simply a wonderful blade, especially since I sanded the black paint off the clip and removed the gaudy gold paint from the (otherwise cool) spyder on the blade.

Call me a Geek! I would buy a Caly in any steel and any colour... well not pink!;)

I just wish someone would bring the large caly back in Micarta and VG-10 or better...

I totally agree. Once you cut with a Caly you are spoiled.

The Caly does for cutting what the first people to go up against the Romans with steels swords must have thought... Eeeek! No more bronze swords for us! We want steel!;)

No more... We want a caly, yes we does! My precious!:p
