What happened to the center of my pin?

The black center of my pin seems to have been gouged out through sanding. I used 120 grit and then 220. Did it somehow take a chunk out?

Thanks!

looks to me like a bubble in the filler resin or epoxy. Was it homemade or bought? If it was bought and you got a bubble, they might (ought to at least) replace it.

Note that I've never used masaic pins, so I don't know a ton about them, but the dumple <that is supposed to read dimple!< looks like it came from a bubble to me.

Yep looks like a bubble,it happens. Just mix up a little epoxy with black pigment and fill then resand.

First time I used mosaic pins, I left the pin a little long, when I epoxied them in. When I went to grind the pins flush with the handle slabs, evidently, the pins got too hot. I had flushed one side of the handle and then went to flush up the other side and looked back at the first finished handle and saw that the inner pins had pushed through to the other side. It's very easy to get mosaic pins too hot. I was using a new coarse grit belt and being very aware of the heat build up, too. I no longer use mosaic pins.

Mosaic pins, like platform shoes, were cool in the 1970s.
